Mediterranean Style House
Our
home in Santa Monica, designed by a well-regarded architect in the
1920's, is a Mediterranean style home with coved ceilings in both
the living room and the dining room. Throughout the summer the home
stays cool, "air-conditioned" by a gentle breeze from the
ocean, only several blocks away.
There
are four bedrooms in the house, and an additional two rooms that could be transformed
into sleeping spaces. Downstairs there is a living room, dining room, kitchen,
breakfast room, laundry room, bathroom, office and a bedroom with a queen-size
bed. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with a king-size bed with a bathroom,
a large bedroom for our daughters with two twin beds, an art room with a single
bed and an upstairs office. There is a bathroom between the girl's bedroom and
the art room. If need be the art room could have a larger bed and the upstairs
office could hold a twin bed.
Outdoors
space includes a front porch to take your pastry and coffee after walking
to Montana Avenue two blocks away. Montana Avenue is the chic shopping
street in Santa Monica, loaded with restaurants, cafes, coffee stores,
pastries, boutiques and quintessential California experiences such as
spotting TV. stars in their jogging outfits, several yoga studios,
and juice bars. Its fun.
The
backyard has a tree-shaded patio and a greenhouse, which our
children use to make into a theatre, restaurant or anything they are
imagining at the moment. We have lots of dress up clothes, props and
a microphone for the play's announcer. This is LA, after all.
Technologically
we are well wired. Our home has digital TV, cable-Internet access with two PC
computers, and an iMac. There is a fax, scanner, and printer in the downstairs
office and two printers upstairs. Our neighborhood is a very fashionable
and desirable neighborhood in Santa Monica, loaded with tree-lined streets, overpriced
homes and lots of dog walking, bicycling, jogging and screen-writers working on
their scripts at the local coffee store.
Santa
Monica is a fun place. Lots of southern California styles in the
shops, fun restaurants with "California fusion" food that
is experimental and represents the incredible ethnic diversity that
keeps us so open in what is new. The wide beaches associated with southern
California are only several blocks away. We easily walk or ride our
bikes; parking is easy in lots off of Pacific Coast Highway.
We
are close to the Getty Museum, UCLA, Malibu, Beverly Hills and plenty
of movie theatres.
Downtown LA is about a 20 minute drive and California Science Museum
or the Natural History Museum are about 20 minute drive away also.
