Galdessa is a small, up-market eco-tourism tented luxury lodge located on the Galana River, situated in Kenya's largest park, Tsavo East National Park.

The accommodation and activities are geared for the discerning traveler in search of a private experience in the African bush. The Galana River flows lazily by, refreshing in the middle of Tsavo's heat and the warm coastal breezes ruffle the doum palms over the bandas.

The Magic of Galdessa is tangible and a stay with us is an authentic and intimate encounter with nature. This is a remote place, off the beaten track and we will dress each day of your safari in a new colour .. whether on foot, or in one of our open game drive vehicles.

The Camp's accommodation consists of bandas (semi-tented thatched bungalows), comfortable & elegantly furnished, designed to preserve the natural beauty of the site. The camp epitomizes the true feeling of a safari camp in harmony with its environment. There are 8 double bandas / cottages with four poster beds and mosquito nets. Each banda has en-suite bathrooms, with solar electricity, running water, and flush toilets. The bandas are built on raised timber floors, with white canvas fronts that open onto the verandah deck during the day and is zipped closed during the night. Galdessa is total peace and tranquility.

The word Galdessa means Baboon in Walangulu, the tribe that inhabited this area of Tsavo.
Under the shade of the doum palms, the camp is divided into downstream and upstream camps, which offer two separate entities with private mess and lounges which can also be booked for exclusive use.

The Camp has two suites, with their own private viewing platform, where private meals can also be served. The central buildings house a spacious dining area, a bar, and a large, comfortable lounge. The thatch roof, Galana stone floors, and deep, bed-size sofas give it a charming coastal atmosphere. A stay at Galdessa Camp, with its romantic, old-fashioned charm, is a real communion with Nature. The only concern of the staff at your service around the clock is your safety, comfort and well-being. The food is the highest quality and served in the dining room with an Italian feel to it, and made from fresh local produce. There is a well-stocked bar and many fascinating books to browse whilst relaxing on comfortable lounges.

The Galana River is full of hippo and crocodile. Tsavo East is reknowned for its famous red Elephants, one of which, Tusker, is resident in Camp, and passes through on his own whim, particularly if children are around, as he simply loves all the attention. The birdlife is abundant. You may even catch lion or the re-introduced and protected black rhino. Game drives are available to take in a sundowner with pre-dinner drinks and watch the sun set over the savannah. Galdessa has been mentioned in many editorials and is on the cover of the 'Safari Style' book published by the London publishers, Thames Hudson for its splendid interior decor.

After an adventurous day's safari, as you listen, drink in hand, to the murmur of the wild animals nearby, you will be under the enchanting spell of mother Africa. You will be surprised and delighted by the quality and variety of the dishes our cooks rustle up for you in the wilds of Africa. The ambiance lent by the openness of the camp, the designs of our rooms and bathrooms, and the intimacy with the wild that one can experience are all part of the true feeling of our "Osmosis" safaris.
